A youthful woman from Homa Bay County has been arrested on suspicion of killing her husband.

Charles Onyango, 31, died after he was stabbed in the chest at a bar in Homa Bay Town on Wednesday evening, July 13.

His wife, who is in her twenties, is the main suspect.

Police say that Onyango had reportedly received a suggestive text message that triggered his spouse’s anger. The two were taking alcohol at an entertainment spot located in Homa Bay.

A physical fight ensued, resulting in Onyango’s wife allegedly stabbing him in the chest.

“After a violent physical confrontation, the woman whipped out a kitchen knife from her bag and stabbed the man in the chest,” Homa Bay Township Senior Chief Joshua Ochogo said.

Onyango bled profusely at the scene, resulting in his death.

The suspect, thereafter, attempted to flee, but was cornered by an angry mob, police said.

Security officers manning the bar, however, rescued her.

“The two (Onyango and his wife) hail from Rachuonyo North Sub-County. We suspect a domestic row led to the fatal attack,” said chief Ochogo.

The suspect is being held in custody at the Homa Bay Police Station as investigations continue.

Homa Bay Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Koskey said Onyango’s body was taken to the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue pending postmortem.
