All football matches in Spain's top division, La Liga, have been suspended for two weeks over fears of the spread of the coronavirus.
The decision follows after Real Madrid F.C had quarantined its entire squad, the league organisers said that it had informed the participating clubs, the Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) and the national sports ministry over the postponements.
The Spanish top tier league becomes the second league in Europe to be suspended after the Italian Serie A was suspended a few days ago due to the spread of the Convid-19 virus.
Other leagues across Europe except for the English Premier League in England have been forced to take precautionary measures with French Ligue 1 announcing that all matches will be played in empty stadiums until April.
Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) enforced the same measure with the knock out matches in the competition having to be played without fans.
