Samburu governor says he is cooperating with EACC in Sh2 billion scandal

Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal (pictured) has said he is cooperating with EACC investigators to unearth the Sh2 billion graft.

Speaking in Maralal town on Thursday, the governor said as a public entity the county is open to investigations.

“As a government structure we are fully open to investigations, we will fully cooperate with all the investigators to ensure that this matter is dealt with,” he said. Lenolkulal, however, urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to conduct honest investigations devoid of political witch hunt.

“That is why we gave indications from the onset to fully cooperate and see that the issue is fully settled,” he said.

The governor said besides accountability issues, every elected leader has a moral obligation of the people who elected them.

The Samburu County boss said it would be evil of him to oversee misappropriation and embezzlement of public funds.

He said he will fully facilitate the investigation process and those found culpable will carry their own cross.

“Anyone found culpable will of course carry their own cross, myself included,” he said.

Further, the governor said it is their sincere hope that the investigations will be done objectively.  “We have faith in our institutions, we have faith in the fight against corruption, we have faith in our Judiciary that eventually we will analyse these issues objectively,” he said.

A section of Maralal town residents called on the EACC to extend the investigations to contractors and junior staff at the county government.

They condemned theft of public funds.
