Court told how teacher was caught defiling his pupil

A court has been told how a primary school teacher escaped from his house when he was accosted by his colleagues while defiling a pupil.

Philip Wesonga, the manager of Sunshine Education Centre, told the court that he received a tip-off from a boda boda rider that one of his pupils had been seen in the company of a teacher heading to his house.

Wesonga said he then proceeded to the house of Josephat Kweyu Wechuli.

“Upon reaching his house, I could hear some people talking. I decided to lock the door from outside and call some people to prevent him from attacking me,” Wesonga said in his testament on Friday.

He told Kakamega Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Malesi that while returning to the house, he heard someone escape through an opening in the roof and could not pursue him.

Upon entering the house, the school manager said, they found the girl in bed alone having hanged her uniform inside the bedroom.

“We managed to enter and found the perpetrator had already escaped, leaving the girl behind. We called the father to take his daughter home and report the matter to authorities for necessary action,” said Mr Wesonga.

His evidence was corroborated by fellow teacher Levi Wafula who accompanied him to the scene.

A clinical officer who examined the girl and filed Post-Rape Care (PRC) form told the court that the girl had indeed been defiled.

Kweyu is alleged to have defiled the 15-year-old on September 11 at his house in Kotchwa Village, Navakholo sub-county.

He is said to have gone into hiding after defiling another girl aged nine on February 12, 2015 at Simakima village and had been on the run until he was implicated in the second offense.

He was arrested after the matter was reported at Navakholo Police Station.

He has denied both charges and is out on a Sh500,000 bond.

The case will be heard on February 14 .
