The matches continue today in Kisumu: Dala 7s favourites easily sail through

Kabras, Impala and Homeboyz all made it to quarter-finals.

Kabras Sugar have put themselves in a pole position to lift their maiden National Sevens Circuit title after qualifying for today’s Dala Sevens quarter-finals at Mamboleo Showground in Kisumu.

However, it will not be a walk in the park for the millers who went into the final round of the circuit at the top of table with 85 points, after their overall title rivals Impala (80 points) and series champions Homeboyz (78 points) also secured the last eight tickets.

Kenya Commercial Bank have also sailed through after winning their first two Pool C matches (Catholic Monks 22-19, MKU Thika 36-0).

Charles Cardovillis’ men will win the circuit if they reach the cup final; this will give them an unassailable 104 points. Anything short of this complicates their title chase.

In case they fail to reach the semis and lose the fifth place play-off final, Kabras will collect 12 points for a 97 point haul, a tally that would be levelled by Impala finishing third and Homeboyz second overall. This scenario would see the team with the highest try count over the six tournaments taking home the overall title.

Kabras kicked off their campaign with a 12-0 victory over Pool A opponents Makueni before thrashing host club Kisumu 24-0 to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Kelvin Kabole and Dominic Osino each scored an unconverted try to inspire the millers to a 12-0 win over Makueni in their opening match.

Impala walloped Egerton Wasps 36-0 in their second Pool B match to sail through as Homeboyz demolished Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) 31-0 in a Pool D encounter. These wins came after the Sarries had mauled Webuye 36-0 while the Deejays humiliated University of East Africa 46-0.

Sammy Oliech, Paul Mutsami, Mark Kwemoi, Samson Onsomu and Leon Adongo grounded a try each in the Sarries’ demolition of Webuye.

Hosts Kisumu had earlier on silenced Daystar Falcons 14-10 with Billy Arigi and Michael Arunga scoring the two converted tries.

Webuye bounced back from an embarrassing defeat against Impala to beat Kisii  17-7 to inch closer to reaching the cup quarters.

Kisii RFC had earlier beaten Egerton Wasps 24-12 as KCB narrowly beat Catholic Monks 22-19 while Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad saw off a hard fighting MKU Stingers 19-17.
