?A human rights group has condemned police brutality meted out to protesters after President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of a disputed election.

Kituo Cha Sheria said it was deeply concerned by the excessive force used by security personnel in dispersing protesters.

The organisation said it was unjustified and unlawful for the police to use live bullets on protesters in Mathare North, Nyamasaria, Kibos, Kondele, Nyalenda, Obunga and Kibera.

A six-month-old baby in Kisumu and a nine-year-old girl in Mathare were among 24 people reportedly killed by the police.

"Kituo Cha Sheria is deeply concerned by the lethal force and brutality meted out on unarmed protesters by the police following the 2017 presidential election," a press statement from the lobby read in part.

"We have reports from our community based paralegals all over the country documenting up to 24 bodies with gunshot wounds including," said the group's executive director Gertrude Angote.

It called upon the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to punish responsible officers.

The Government has however denied the killings.
