The National Environment Management Authority (Nema) will, in a week, list the range of banned plastic bags.

According to the authority, the ban that will come into effect on August 28 will not be suspended despite opposition from some manufacturers.

This came as the authority warned that anyone, including consumers, flouting the ban will be jailed for two years or a fine of up to Sh4 million.

Nema Director General Geoffrey Wakhungu said the authority is in the process of listing the banned polythene bags before the ban comes into effect.

"As per the gazetted law anyone flouting the ban faces between one and two-year jail term," he said.
