Residents of Chepkosa village in Chepalungu Sub county were shocked to intercept two thieves on motorcycle ferrying a stolen goat dressed as a passenger covered with a sheet and covered on its head with an helmet.
The two men were intercepted by members of public near Kipsuter trading centre but had two run for their lives leaving behind the goat and the motorbike when their trickery was discovered.
However, their flight was short lived as the curious residents on discovering they were thieves chased after them arrested them, beat them mercilessly before handing them over to a nearby police post.
Mr. Hillary Ngetich of Chepkosa whom the stolen goat belonged to said his son went to the goats' pen that morning to open the goats for grazing when he realized that one goat was missing and went back to the house to inform his father of the development.
"Before we could decide on what to do I was called by a neighbour who informed me that two thieves had been intercepted with a goat on a motorbike posing as a patient being taken to Longisa for specialized treatment and when I went to Kipsuter I confirmed it was my missing goat." a jubilated Mr. Ng'etich said.
He added that the area was becoming notorious for livestock theft and the local government authorities and security apparatus should take action and assure residents of safety for self and their property.
Area assistant chief Mr. Linus Kirui said he had names of probable suspects and would consult with elders from 'Nyumba Kumi' initiative to bring the culprits behind behind the theft incidents to book.
"We have a list of people we suspect to be behind a wave of livestock theft in the region and we assure residents to volunteer any information that can lead to an arrest to come forward so as to secure our area and make it safe for everyone to engage in economic activities without fear." he said.
