KCSE candidate dies after drinking ethanol

A family in Migori County is mourning the death of their son after drinking a laboratory chemicals. George Ogutu, 17, a candidate at Nyango Mixed Secondary School in Suna West Sub-county, died fours after drinking ethanol to ‘get high’. Ogutu and three other students are said to have drunk the chemical after sneaking it out of the examination room after writing their Chemistry practical paper on Friday. His father, Patrick Ogutu said he noticed his son was unwell when he started vomiting. “I rushed outside and saw his friends standing by him as he threw up. When I asked what was wrong, they quickly said it was malaria,” said Mr Ogutu.
