Boda boda operators in Kisumu protest after one of them is killed by unknown gang

Hundreds of boda boda operators in Kisumu town yesterday held demonstrations to protest against what they termed as insecurity and infringement of their rights to carry out operations in the town and its environs.

The demonstrations which were mainly held at the county headquarters, were sparked off by an alleged killing of a boda boda operator by unknown gang which they claim has been harassing them all along and no action has since been taken by the police.

”We have come here to talk to the Governor so that an immediate action can be taken and security restored. ’Said one of the operators.

Their efforts to see the Governor so as to find a solution to their issues proved futile after one of the Security officials told them he was not around.

Holding placards and chanting ‘bado mapambano’, the operators said that the removal of Johnson Wanyama who once served as the Officer in Charge at Kondele Police Station is one of the main causes as to why the police officers not doing their job appropriately.

”We want Wanyama back!” They shouted as they demanded for an immediate action.

They said they were going to go on with their protests until the governor talks to them and ensure that their issues have been addressed
