Kisii man lynched for killing his two children

A village in Nyamira is mourning the killing of two children by their father in a suspected ritual sacrifice.

And in return, the public descended on the man and lynched him.

Bugesi Okero, 25, was cornered by an angry mob soon after committing the heinous act yesterday afternoon.

Nyamira South OCPD Rico Ngare said Mr Okero was killed at around 3pm after he butchered the children who were under his care since his wife deserted their matrimonial home about six months ago.

Police retrieved a kitchen knife that the man used to kill the two children. According to Mr Ngare, the man was the one taking care of the children after his wife left him.

"The report we have from the family is that the man has been living with the children for six months now since his wife left. He has been catering for their needs all along," Ngare said.

Close family members said the man had initially threatened to commit suicide after claiming that there was some black magic in his house that was causing him fears and anxiety.

The neignbours said he had accused the wife of being the one behind the alleged witchcraft.

"He was a very hard-working man and he never wanted his children to be with anybody. He would take care of them and he never fell short of food or basic needs," said Richard Tai, his uncle.

Okero's parents died more than 10 years ago and he was the only son born to them.

His aunt, Peris Tai, said the youthful father had continually reported how he was being haunted by a strange animal, which he and the estranged wife had tamed.

"Every now and again, he used to tell us that his wife was taming a rat that was very strange and which was frustrating him. He used not to drink or smoke anything, but after he told us what he was going through, he changed and started getting drunk and smoking bhang," said the aunt.
