Attacks against Kiambu Governor William Kabogo unnecessary

The ongoing attacks on Kiambu Governor William Kabogo over his recent statement that Central Kenya's support for Deputy President William Ruto is not guaranteed are unnecessary.

Reports of demonstrations in Eldoret among other areas against Mr Kabogo's statement are unwarranted.

The governor has spoken his mind and it is his constitutional and democratic right to speak without any intimidation.

Kabogo's statement that negotiations among the people of Central Kenya will determine who they will support for presidency after President Uhuru Kenyatta's term in office ends is not something new to Kenyans who understand the political dynamics of the region.

But we wonder why Kabogo's remarks are raising eyebrows.

It should be clear that Ruto is not supporting Uhuru in 2017 so that he starts begging Central Kenya to return a favour but he is removing both Uhuru and CORD leader Raila Odinga from the 2022 ballot paper.

Ruto is preparing the battlefield and choosing his 2022 opponents using the truncation model and Governor Kabogo should know this.

The governor should know the Kikuyu community couldn't produce a presidential candidate alone without the support of other Kenyans.

The truth of the matter is that without the support of Ruto in 2013 and probably 2017, Uhuru could not be anywhere near power.

Kabogo should know that Ruto is someone who is always conversant with the politics of Central Kenya and will be the last person to be entirely depending on them for his political survival.

It will not even be a surprise if the DP picks his running mate from among the Luhya community since politics is about planning
