Mr Carey Muhando Maboya, a holder of both Kenyan and Namibian passports number was arrested at the international arrivals.

The man had arrived from Sao Paulo, Brazil aboard an Ethiopian airline when he was detained, he has so far emitted 51 pellets of the drug. Police say the suspect is still under observation.

Airport DCI boss Joseph Ngisa said it was the first time the man had travelled to the South American region.

"He has so far emitted 51 pellets of narcotics and he is under observation to finish the process," said Ngisa.

Such cases are on the rise in which mules carry narcotics in their anal system for money.

Police at JKIA have in the past months made arrests and seizures of drugs that are on transit.

Most of the narcotics that are seized are cocaine and heroin.

Statistics show police at the airport seized drugs valued more than Sh100 million in the past year. Most of those arrested were passengers who were on transit.

The trend shows most of the passengers on transit from Southern American countries carry cocaine. Those from Asian countries carry heroin.
