Officers net illicit brew in Kitui

NAIROBI: A combined force of security agents seized second generation liquor worth Sh5 million from a distribution depot in Kitui town.

The four-hour operation netted 1,278 cartons, 7,668 litres of the Tana Special Brand brew at a building within the town centre.

The operation was led by Kitui Central Deputy County Commissioner Saidi Shaban who mobilised Chief Joseph Makuthu, OCPD Kennedy Osando and his administration police and prisons counterparts.

Mr Shaban ordered police to break into the depot after the owner declined to yield to pleas to surrender.

"We used three Government trucks to ferry the brews to river Kalundu where we destroyed them. We thank the public for their cooperation," Mr Osando said.

Meanwhile, retired military pilot Alphonce Mukwayu Musyimi has denied 1,655 litres of second generation liquor impounded at his premises in Kitui belong to him.

Mr Musyimi said the loot belongs to a tenant he had leased the house to.
