EACC recommends closure of Cabinet Secretaries, Sonko graft files

NAIROBI, KENYA: Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday recommended the closure of files for three cabinet secretaries and Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko.

The three Cabinet Secretaries include Felix Koskei of Agriculture, Energy’s Davis Chirchir and Transport’s Michael Kamau.

The three were suspended by President Uhuru Kenyatta following reports linking them to various corruption allegations.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Felix Koskei was being investigated over allegations of irregular award of permits to import sugar.

The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet secretary Michael Kamau was being accused of irregular contract award to Landmark Clearing and Forwarding Company.

Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Energy Davis Chirchir and Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko were being investigated in a tender award at the Kenya Pipeline Company.

Narok County Governor Samuel K. Tunai, county officials Lenku Seki Kanar and Charles Gitau Ngugi were facing allegations of human resource management and procurement irregularities in the Narok County Government but EACC has recommended for the closure of the file.

The EACC has recommended that Alex Kyalo Mutuku and seven other Makueni County officials should be charged over allegations of use of funds exceeding approved budget by the County Assembly against the Makueni County Governor and his Executive Committee.  

DPP Keriako Tobiko says he makes decisions on graft cases based solely on evidence, facts and the law and in accordance with Article 157 of the Constitution and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, 2013.

“My decisions are made without regard to political, ethnic or other external considerations. As the DPP/ODPP, our fidelity is and shall remain to the Constitution and the law.” Read part of the statement to the media.
