Reality check on Kenya leaders

Kenya is now at crossroads and the choice is either to restore sanity in the management of state affairs and enhance the spirit of nationhood or fall into the political abyss. It presents a paradox of sorts when our leaders masquerade to hold the interests of  wananchi at heart while at the same time abetting impunity and double standards which may be adverse to wananchi.

This is a paradox that may disturb and haunt our collective conscience and efforts to address it but the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission deserves credit. The EACC and the DPP should expeditiously investigate the cabinet secretaries and bring to book those found for abuse of office.

It is unfortunate that our leaders’ sentiments are informed and guided by affinity to their political party as opposed to their personal considerations on policies, public goodwill, governance and the state of affairs in the country. They slay the dragon of old fashioned and retrogressive politics for political expediency even with the state of insecurity in the country.

Today, all we have are spoilt brats, busy bodies, wing bangs, sycophants, war-mongering scoundrels, land-grabbing miscreants and shenzi types masquerading as leaders and it is even clear that the barons of power are unbecoming in behaviour.

It is now time for us as citizens to inculcate a value system that will enable us elect leaders who will discharge their mandate rather than those who hurl barbs and salvos at each other with reckless abandon.
