NCIC: National healing not yet realised

By PATRICK BEJA

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) have expressed concern over ‘grave issues’, which it said have not been resolved less than three months to the General Election.

NCIC chairman Mzalendo Kibunjia said it was sad that the country was going to the election with five key issues still unaddressed.

“We should be all concerned that the country is going to the election while several structural issues are unresolved,” Kibunjia said.

Addressing the Speaker’s Round Table conference convened by Parliament and Kenya Private Sector Alliance at Leisure Lodge Resort in Diani on Monday evening, Dr Kibunjia said land reforms has not yet to been implemented and boundary disputes still rage on.

TJRC Chairman Bethwel Kiplagat said it was impossible to deal with the critical land issues less than three months to the General Election.

“It is impossible to deal with land issues about three months to the election as part of the efforts to ensure free, fair and peaceful polls,” he said.

He said his commission would recommend for those adversely mentioned in its report to respond to matters raised when another commission takes up such duties.

Kibunjia told participants historical injustices have not been tackled and national healing has not been realised.
