Palaver

It was disheartening to learn of the death of Raila due to malnutrition. Of course the Prime Minister is up and kicking, and malnutrition is one of the remotest ways through which he can link up with his ancestors.

You probably recall the woman who gave birth to triplets and named them Raila, Kalonzo and Kibaki. Perhaps the young Raila could have been alive today had the Prime Minister made follow up on the welfare of the baby named in his honour. Palaver hopes President Kibaki and Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka would ensure that the young Kalonzo and Kibaki would not suffer their brother’s fate.

A Palaver fan is not amused with the voters’ registration cards issued by the Interim Independent Electoral Commission. Hear from the horse’s own mouth: "The new card is of poor quality and cannot be compared with Samuel Kivuitu’s document. It is just a simplistic thing in plastic or is it as interim as the Interim Independent Electoral Commission?"

Energy Minister Kiraitu Murungi should invest in a diary to keep track of the politicians he has endorsed for the presidency and the good things he has often told them during the endorsements. Palaver has lost track but remembers that the last endorsee was Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka during his silver jubilee celebrations on Saturday and almost every aspirant who has visited Kiraitu’s Imenti constituency.

The Government should not help the Church redeem its image by engaging it in negotiations over the Proposed Constitution. The President and Prime Minister should let John Cardinal Njue and his No stance colleagues be humiliated at the ballot box or let them prove their claim of being shepherds of a subservient multitude.

And finally…

The land issue must be a hot potato indeed. Quite a number of top politicians opposed to the new law are unconformable with the clause regulating land ownership but cannot dare campaign against the draft on this platform.
