The World Wide Fund (WWF) has donated livestock worth more than Sh13 million to a ranch.

Mr Jimmy Mwamidi, chairperson of Wushumbu Ranch in Kasigau location, Voi Sub-County, said they received 210 goats, 51 sheep, 200 beehives and 500 poultry from WWF.

He said the ranch and the Kasigau community would directly benefit from the donation. “The WWF donation will help conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to biodiversity,” Mr Mwamidi told The Standard.

The threats include commercial and subsistence poaching, environmental degradation and fires. “This donation will promote affirmative action to ensure employment opportunities are available to locals. We will engage the local community through capacity building,” said the official.

He said after training, vulnerable groups like single mothers, widowers, orphans, elderly and youth would be given beehives and poultry. The county has 30 community group ranches.
