Taita-Taveta Speaker grilled over sacking of Mwatate municipality board members

Taita Taveta MCAs have criticised Governor Granton Samboja for sacking two Mwatate Special Municipality board members.

The Ward Reps also raised concerns over the spending of Sh50 million from the World Bank.

On Friday, Speaker Meshack Maganga directed County Secretary Liverson Mghendi to furnish the House with a report on whether Mr Samboja followed the law when sacking the two officials.

He asked that this be done through a joint committee comprising Justice, Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Labour and Employment, and Trade Unions and Social Welfare committees.

“I have given the committees up to Wednesday to present the report. The new appointment is disobedience of the law because he handpicked the board chairmab,” said Mr Maganga.

The governor sacked chairperson Martin Tairo who was replaced by Thomas Jumwa Nyambu.

Also sacked was the board’s chairperson for Finance Committee Erick Mlati.
