GSU officer and two civilians arrested for abducting Safaricom employee

A police constable is among two suspects who were arrested on Saturday by detectives in Mombasa for allegedly abducting an official from a mobile service provider in Malindi.

The alleged abduction occurred on Friday afternoon.

The policeman was arrested and the victim freed.

Police said the suspect identified as Kelvin Komora who is based at GSU camp in Baringo County had allegedly abducted the said Safaricom employee who works in Malindi in a suspected loan recovery mission.

Other suspects who were arrested are Grace Wairimu and Omar Mwanguze.

Mombasa Urban Directorate of Criminal Investigations Anthony Muriithi confirmed the incident saying the suspects are being held at central police station pending investigations.

“We have three suspects in custody including an officer. This is serious, how can a police officer engage in such incidences? We cannot tolerate, one has to go home,'' he said.

The suspects had claimed that the woman victim had taken Sh500,000 loan from one of the abductors identified as Ms Grace Wairimu but in the process she failed to repay the money as it was agreed.

The suspects then decided to seek police assistance.

The DCI officers from Malindi and their Mombasa counterparts after receiving a tip off of suspected abduction, trailed the abductors.

When the suspects sensed they were being trailed, they drove themselves to central police station where they were arrested.

The area DCI boss said the suspects will be arraigned on Monday once investigations are completed adding that the Nissan motor Vehicle was seized.
