Eight students, aged between 17 and 18, are among 30 people who were charged yesterday in connection with gang attacks in Nyali, Mombasa County, two weeks ago.

The juveniles told Senior Resident Magistrate Edgar Kagoni they are from different high schools around Mombasa.

Anxious parents flocked to the courtroom as charges were read to the accused.

The court ordered that the accused be remanded at Shimo La Tewa Prison for two weeks, pending investigations on the status of the minors.

Kagoni said he would rule on bond once it was established who among the accused are students.

“Because I don’t know if you are lying to me, all of you will be remanded at Shimo La Tewa until September 4, 2019. I know schools are opening on September 2, 2019, but you will be inside until September 4,” he said.

The 30 are facing 10 counts of robbery with violence in Lake View in Nyali.

The incidents occurred on diverse dates between August 5 and 18, 2019.
