Three suspects arrested over Bamburi gang attack as police launch manhunt

Authorities have arrested three suspects linked to last night’s Bamburi gang attack.

The three were identified as Jackson Okelo, Paul Ayub, and 17-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed Hamdan.

Briefing media on Tuesday morning, Area Police Commander Johnson Ipara said that at least 13 people who were injured in the melee are currently receiving treatment at Coast General Hospital. Four are in critical condition.

Witnesses who spoke to KTN News say they were a group of roughly ten attackers.

Police have since launched a security operation in the area to flush out ten members of the gang, locally known as WakaliKwanza gang.

They say that a team is pursuing one suspect in Likoni. The gang members are said to be between ages of 16-25.

The criminal gang descended on residents of Kwa Bulo, Lake View and Bamburi on Monday night with machetes and pangas, robbing and slashing anyone on their path, causing chaos and panic.

Ipara has also asked residents to remain calm as they continue a manhunt for other suspects.
