The Kenya Red Cross Society has completed building 5,700 out of 6,000 houses for flood victims in 26 counties.

Secretary General Abbas Gullet said they had spent Sh1 ,allocated by the Government last year, to build the homes.

Mr Gullet said the funds were well utilised and had transformed the lives of victims who are now living in modern houses on higher grounds. He noted they had already submitted a report to the Interior ministry showing how the money was spent.

Gullet said this would end speculation, by some political leaders, on how the money was spent.

He spoke yesterday at Kalongoni village in Garashi, Magarini sub-county, during a tour of  houses constructed for floods victims.

Gullet explained that Sh600 million was spent on building houses, while Sh100 million was spent on health care, Sh150 million on water and the rest on logistics and office matters.
