Police gun down suspected gangster believed to be terrorising M-pesa agents

Police on Monday gunned down a suspected notorious gangster in Changamwe Mombasa.

The suspect, popularly known as Morio, was shot dead inside his house in Mathare area in Changamwe at around 4:10pm.

Police believe the 36 year-old suspect was one of the ringleader of a gang terrorizing M-pesa agents and other businesses in the area.

The area police chief Daudi Loronyokwo told The Standard on phone that the officers recovered a pistol and several rounds of ammunition from the slain gang.

He said the officers acting on a tipoff stormed the suspect’s house and when he was ordered to surrender, he defied the orders and was shot.

"We believe the suspect is among the gang that has been robbing M-pesa shops in Changamwe, we are pursuing other three who are still at large," said police boss.

The killing of the suspect comes days after an M-Pesa agent woman was shot dead shortly after she closed her shop by gunmen in a motorcycle.

The suspect made away with unknown amount of money.

The woman succumbed to injuries at Bomu hospital where she was rushed.

She was shot from the back and bullet exited in abdomen.
