Mombasa police detain KDF impostor, seize military uniform and equipment

Detectives have arrested a man they claim has been impersonating a Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldier.

The suspect was arrested from a house in Mshomoroni, Kisauni yesterday, in a raid where a police radio, five mobile phones, KDF regalia and a Toyota Fielder car were impounded.

Police sources aware of the arrest told The Standard the suspect is currently being interrogated before he is arraigned.

The interrogation involves teams from various security agencies including the anti-terrorism unit.

"The anti-terrorism team came in to ascertain whether the suspect is linked to any terrorism activities. His phone records will be scrutinised, if they do not find anything linked terrorism, then we will take it from there," said a senior police officer.

Reports indicate that KDF headquarters had confirmed that the suspect was not a military officer.

Kisauni Police Chief Christopher Rotich confirmed the arrest, but declined to divulge more details.

"We have the suspect in police custody, after we have completed our investigations we will release more information," he said.
