Two police officers interdicted over KCSE exam leakage in Kilifi

Kilifi, Kenya: Two police officers arrested in connection to this year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) leakage in Kilifi have been interdicted.

Kilifi County Police Commander Douglas Kanja said Friday that the two officers will remain out of work until the case against them is heard and determined. The officers were charged alongside 12 students.

"The two officers were charged today in a Kilifi Court. Although they were released on cash bail of Sh20, 000 each, the two will remain suspended pending hearing and determination of the case," said Kanja.

he officers are among two teachers from Ganze Boys Secondary school and 12 students from private centers in Kilifi town who were arrested early this week following a crackdown on examination cheating.

Police intercepted a phone conversation (text message) between one of the teachers and the arrested officers who were invigilating the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination.

The 12 candidates were also found with a copy of mathematics examination in their mobile phones.

At the same time, 11 students from Barani Secondary School in Malindi were also charged with being in possession of examination materials.

They were each released on a Sh30,000 surety bond or Sh10,000 cash bail.

One student had been found with copies of a Chemistry and Christian Religious Education examination materials.

The student is said to have led the police officers to Barani Secondary School where he identified ten other students who were said to be members of a social group called "Blessed" where they have been circulating the examination materials among the members.
