Teachers told to examine aspirants

All teachers in Kwale County have been advised to interrogate governor aspirants to identify those who have the ability to improve education standards.

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers Kwale branch Secretary General Mackenzie Tuki was categorical that whoever will emerge the winner has to have a plan on how to improve education.

“We are appealing to all teachers to interrogate the candidates and elect those that have an agenda for parents and children of the entire county. Right now as a union we have not been approached by anyone but if they do, they have to give us their blueprint so that we don’t just go blindly,” said Tuki.

He said yesterday as opinion leaders, the union can shape the politics of the region by advising the voters.

“With over 800 members we are a force to reckon with. We are surprised that no one has approached us and we are not sure if they have any agenda for the county. The talking phase is over and we are now walking that talk towards Vision 2030,” he said. “We have insufficient infrastructure that should be improved in terms of facilities and few scattered schools that are a great impediment to quality education.”

Tuki reiterated that a good governor will be able to bring all stake holders on board to share ideas, something he says that is still lacking as there is no unity.
