Charles Njoroge, a local who visited the dispensary from Naiturachi village in Laikipia, some 20 kilometres away, said the facility has sufficient medical equipment.

"I brought my daughter to deliver at the facility and left Karemenu dispensary which is eight kilometres from my home," he said.

As locals enjoy modern services at the facility, one of the financiers, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) known as Goals Mile Onlus Italy has also been recognised by the Italian government for setting up the facility as well as other projects in Africa and Ukraine.

Vice President of the NGO, Gianifranco Schiava, said they have earned an award from the City of Venice owing to the prudent management of resources towards the project.

"This project has helped us pass the test of being a legitimate NGO after the yearly assessment by government, earning us a credible position in our country," Schiava said.

He called on the Nyeri County Government to elevate the status of the facility to a Level Four and to deploy more health personnel.

"The county can take advantage of the medical equipment installed at the facility and our organisation is willing to deploy doctors to train their Kenyan counterparts," he said.

Other than the medical facility, the group has also set up nine dental and medical clinics in Nyeri, Nairobi and Kajiado counties at the cost of Sh22 million.
