Police acting on a tip off nabbed 15 high school students who were found drinking alcohol at Nkubu township

The students were arrested at different pubs in Imenti South sub county on Monday.

Imenti South police boss William Maronga said officers who had been tipped off by members of the public arrested the learners alongside three other people.

“We found eight students in one of the clubs drinking beer,” said Maronga.

A waiter at the bar was also arrested for selling alcohol to the minors.

The police chief said the students who were not in school uniform at the time of arrest, disclosed that they were students from different institutions.

Raided another club

“At around 9pm we raided another club and found another group of seven students drinking alcohol. We arrested them alongside the waiter and the person who was serving the alcohol. All were boys and under 18 years ,” Maronga said.

At the same time, the police boss has warned students against visiting such establishments and bar operators against serving alcohol to minors, saying appropriate deterrence measures will be taken against them.

He said it's up to the court to take whatever the action it deemed fit against the offenders.

“The Government will take action against bar owners who allow minors into their premises, and serve them alcohol,” he said.
