Police shot dead a man suspected to be responsible for many crimes in Othaya. The killing came after weeks of camping in the Abardares Forest, as the officers laid a manhunt for the suspect, described as the most wanted criminal in the county.

Samuel Kiboi, who had been hiding in the forest for the last four months, had been on the police’s wanted list for two murders, robbery with violence and arson. Othaya police boss Joseph Mwika, said his officers had been camping in the forest despite heavy rains looking for the suspect with the help of sniffer dogs.

Yesterday, they found him and shot him dead. “We have been tracking him for the past few weeks in connection with the murder of his girlfriend in Rwathe-ini village, Gitugi,” Mr Mwika said.

Police recovered food, clothes, a sleeping bag and a panga among other things in his hide out. “We believe he carried out the murder in August this year, before escaping into the forest,” Mwika said. A few weeks ago, he slashed a boda boda operator to death.
