Wait a little longer for jobs, candidates told

Nyeri, Kenya: Confusion reigns at the Nyeri County government following the cancellation of interviews for various positions.

It has remained unclear why the job interviews were cancelled at the last minute despite the administration putting up advertisements and shortlisting candidates.

The candidates will now have to wait a little longer before they are called for interviews as fears emerge the exercise may have been suspended to allow room for underhand deals. This is despite a raging outcry from tens of the applicants, who accused the county government of ‘taking them for a ride’.

Those who spoke to The Standard on condition of anonymity accused the county government of failure to notify them of change of interview dates, while some had to travel from as far as Nairobi and Kiambu.

Staff audit

“My name was among others published in daily newspapers and I was to attend my interview at the Nyeri County headquarters on December 3. I think the county government was not serious when it invited our applications,” said a candidate.

Another applicant said several visits to the county offices to enquire over the delay have not borne fruits, since they are only instructed to wait. “How long shall I wait to be informed on the interview date?” posed the candidate.

County Chief of Staff Duncan Maina Mathenge, however, said the government decided to shelf the interview until an audit of staff who were inherited from both the public service and defunct local authorities is conducted.
