NYERI, KENYA: A fraud case facing fake cop Joshua Karianjahi Waiganjo has been postponed to January 2014.

The case failed to proceed Thursday, as the Chief Magistrate’s court where the case was to be heard was not in session.

Waiganjo had been early morning at the Nyeri Law Courts from the Naivasha Maximum Prison where he is serving a two year sentence for being in illegal possession of police uniform.

In Nyeri, Waiganjo is facing five separate counts of fraud for allegedly conning three Nyeri families, of Sh280,000 in the pretext of assisting their three young men join the police service.

One of the parents who is former police officer, had earlier in the case narrated how he met Waiganjo during a police seminar in Mombasa.

Daniel Kago Gachanja, a former police inspector narrated how he a friendship developed between them culminating in Waiganjo's promise to assist his son join the police service.

Gachanja told Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma that the flamboyant Waiganjo looked no doubt like a genuine superintendant of police.

He said Waiganjo at one time made him believe that he was talking on phone with former AP Commandant, and current Nakuru governor, Kinuthia Mbugua.

“I gave him Sh 50,000, which he said would just be repayment as he had already transferred a similar amount Mr Mbugua to smooth things up for my son,” said Gachanja.

He said that he only learnt that Waiganjo was a con when a visit to Mbugua's office in Nairobi failed to materialise.

The other two parents whom Waiganjo allegedly conned were expected to testify in court Thursday but the case was adjourned.

The case continues on January 14 2014.
