MURANG’A, KENYA: A 44-year-old man committed suicide in a chief’s office in Githunguri village of Kandara district shortly after he was locked in.

The deceased identified as Peter Kimani Mburu is reported to have been summoned by area chief together with his relatives over a protracted domestic dispute.

Kandara District Commissioner Mr Thomas Sese on Friday confirmed the incident saying it occurred in Githunguri chief’s office.

Area chief had directed the members of the family to report at his office at 9 am only for the deceased to report at 2 pm but found the meeting had ended.

Sese said the chief left the deceased in his office to call the relatives only to find the man had hanged himself.

“He used a rag that is used in cleaning the office to hang himself,” said the DC.

The body was moved to Thika district mortuary pending further investigations.
