Uhuru mourns death of officer who was in-charge of Sagana State Lodge

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday mourned the death of Chief Inspector of Police Pius Kipserem who was in charge of Sagana State Lodge.

The late Kipserem, who served the National Police Service for 28 years, died in a road accident along the Oljororok-Dundori Road in Nyandarua County on Monday.

The Head of State described him as a courageous officer who was committed to his work.

“My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Chief Inspector Kipserem following the tragic death of such a courageous man.

“His sacrifice in serving this great nation will be forever remembered,” said the President.

He prayed to God to give the family comfort and fortitude at this difficult moment of mourning.

Sagana Lodge was built in 1949–1950 as a royal residence and was a wedding present in 1947 to the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh from the colony whilst they were in Kenya.

The lodge was leased to the couple by the government of Kenya.

The lease to Sagana Lodge was given back to Kenya in 1963 and in 1976 it, along with several other official residences of the President of Kenya were declared protected zones.

The lodge's most prominent use, in independent Kenya's history was when Mwai Kibaki, then the President of Kenya, and Raila Odinga, used the site as a retreat to come to an agreement on Kenya's grand coalition government.
