Babu Owino comes to the rescue of 13-year-old who almost committed suicide

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Saturday, December 28, 2019, came to the rescue of a 13-year-old girl who almost committed suicide in Kisumu County.

This came after a local television station highlighted the plight of the girl who was considering suicide because her parents could not afford her school fees.

Through social media, Owino likened the girl’s situation to his and mentioned that he was educated through fundraisers and proceeds from Chang’aa sales.

“I will pay school fees for this learner to ensure she achieves her dreams. A child belongs to the community” posted the MP.

“I would like to give an opportunity to others the same way I was given through fundraising and through selling Chang’aa,” reads a message on Babu’s Facebook Page.

The girl sat for her KCPE exams in 2019 at Xaverian Primary School and scored 391/500 in the exams which earned her a place at Asumbi Girls High school.

On her suicide note, the girl indicated that she weighed her options and suicide was her best path to follow.

“I know it is not the only way to solve this problem, but it is the best option for me to take,” read part of the suicide note.
