Woman going to jail for lying on CV to land prestigious job

A woman who lied on her CV to land a job that pays Sh19 million per year is heading to jail.

Veronica Hilda, an Australian, pleaded guilty to giving false information on her resume in a bid to become a Chief Information Officer in South Australia’s Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

She was convicted of deception, abuse of office and dishonesty and received a 25-month sentence.

Hilda committed the offence in 2007 and succeeded in getting the job and worked for over a month, taking home around Sh2 million.

She had lied about her education and employment - where she masqueraded as her former employer.

On landing the job, Hilda employed her brother even though he was not qualified.

Unfortunately, her mental health deteriorated and soon afterwards the truth came out.

According to 7 news, Judge Michael Boylan said Hilda most probably planned out everything and although she is unwell, the charges levelled against her were serious.

"You fraudulently obtained employment for which you were paid a large salary and in the course of which you may have had access to sensitive material," he said.

Her defense, however, maintained she was deeply remorseful for her actions.
