Kenyans in shock as Statehouse congratulates Museveni on a "hollow victory"

Kenyans have today voiced their shock on The official Facebook page and twitter account representing the president of Kenya which as of 8:43pm posted an update congratulating the incumbent president of Uganda on his re-election after 30 years on the seat he is due to serve another term.

The recent elections were more of a circus than an election, the opposition candidate was arrested several times throughout the week, and the whole world was left in shock as to the  outright disregard for law and order during voting process.

On the other hand our beloved President Uhuru Kenyatta (or someone representing him) had this to say,

“I am very pleased to congratulate His Excellency President Yoweri Museveni on his re-election as President of the Republic of Uganda. The people of Uganda have spoken, and they have spoken very clearly. We respect their choice of President Museveni.

Kenya values its close friendship with Uganda. That friendship is founded on a common history, a common culture, and common interests. In years past, we have worked closely together for the prosperity and freedom of our nations. We look forward to continuing the work that both our nations have already done, together and in concert with the East African Community, the African Union, and IGAD. We look forward, too, to even closer integration.

I wish President Museveni every success as he serves his nation for another term. He and Uganda can count on my support, and my friendship, as well as that of their brothers and sisters in Kenya."

If what we have seen is something to go by and with statehouse sending congratulations on this so called victory, what are we to expect in 2017? Will Kenya elections be another circus like we have just witnessed in Uganda?

In this regard Kenyans who always take to social media to defend the president have suddenly vanished perhaps too ashamed to side with him on this recent post, with over 8,000 comments posted so far only a handful have "sided" with the president saying this is his opinion and not that of Kenyans.

Kenyans have spoken and this is what they had to say:

-If you really respect the people of Uganda then you should clearly know they are grieving. Otherwise you are playing hypocrisy here, how come no Kenyan president has ruled for 35yrs.

-May the whole world understand that this is a personal statement from Uhuru and does not in any way represent the view of Kenyans. No sane mind can talk positive about an open dishonest election marred with irregularities and intimidation of opponents like Uganda's.

-I regret on behalf of people of Kenya. The views Kenyatta has expressed here are personal and do not reflect wishes of Kenyans. We stand with our Brothers in Uganda during this trying moments of their democracy when an election is rigged and people intimidated.

-Museveni is a dictator who rules and commands everything in Uganda, he oppressed the opposition so that he could retain power by the bullet. This victory is only his, dictatorship and greed for power is what will ruin Africa.

-The people of Uganda have spoken, and they have spoken very clearly ... yes Mr. President, the people of Uganda spoke clearly and said it was Kissa Besigye they wanted as their president but this ‘person’ you are congratulating stole his victory..... this post is so insensitive..

-To the people of Uganda, we would like to clearly state that the support of Museveni by our president Uhuru is very personal and doesn't represent the true feelings of Kenyans.

-I am Ugandan and have supported President Uhuru Kenyatta, but wow! Am humbled by the responses to this post by mostly Kenyans - thank you! Folks, when the truth is not spoken, it ceases to exist. Justice denied one is justice denied everywhere. I pray that Kenya doesn't go through what Uganda is currently experiencing.

-You are congratulating a dictator! The election is not credible, opposition leaders are been intimidated with arrest, they blocked social media to stop people from expressing their opinion.

-We Ugandans are very disappointed in your congratulation message to dictator M7 no sane person can congratulate such a thief like M7 when you won election people went on street to celebrate your victory ask yourself why Ugandans are mourning no celebrations. I expected Mugabe, Bashir, Nkurizinza to congratulate dictator M7 but not you we Ugandans are mourning this thuggery.

- Ugandans loved you Kenyatta because you were a symbol of the next generation of African leaders, the youthful, respectful, democratic and those who respect and believe in the voice of the people they serve. But I guess we were wrong, you endorsing a dictatorship is a hurting and worrying sign. Kenyan brothers watch out, you might also be grooming a Mugabe, Gbagbo, or a Museveni............stand warned.

-The usual psychopaths who comment on this page to display their primitive loyalty to the president have today deserted him, they are too ashamed to be associated with anything on his page right now, if the president/statehouse has the balls to congratulate Uganda incumbent for "winning" then Kenyans be prepared for shock in 2017...... this is a sign of what's to come.

-Someone (probably in our opposition) needs to apologize to Ugandans on behalf of all Kenyans for what has been said.

-Note the president’s post says “I am pleased " and nowhere does it mention the people of Kenya...till u read the last sentence

We as Kenyans should take it upon ourselves to make sure a circus like this shouldn't happen in 2017, we have experienced what rigged elections can do in 2007/08, and from what we have seen today from statehouse, and the opposition vowing not to accept anything short of a free and fair election process we should not tolerate anything that could tear our country apart
