Ruai maid strangles child and flees as parents are at work

By PKEMOI NGENOH

Nairobi, Kenya: A maid in Ruai strangled a one-year-old child to death under unclear circumstances. Police are in hot pursuit of the 19-year-old girl who fled after the killing.

Police said she used a rope to strangle the child while her employers were away.

When they got home from work, the parents stumbled on the lifeless body of their child lying in the bedroom.

“They usually leave the child until late hours of the night without any problem with the househelp. We are quite shocked to learn this since she had worked for some time now,” a neighbour told The Nairobian.

It is not clear what might have pushed the girl to kill the child.
