The 86-year-old, who died on Tuesday, was known for his educational songs. With over 60 compositions, his music ruled the airwaves of Kalenjin vernacular radio stations for years. Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei expressed sorrow over the passing of Solomon Manori, the legendary frontman of the Chemaner Band. "His music resonated with many, and his legacy will surely inspire future generations. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and everyone influenced by his artistry." Former Konoin MP Julius Kones shared his condolences, saying, "With heavy hearts, we join family, friends, and fans in mourning the loss of Mzee Solomon Manori, a true icon of Kalenjin Rhumba and a cultural treasure of the Kipsigis community, who passed away on May 6, 2025. Sadly, the talented artist, known for his work with the Chemaner Band, hardly had the chance to enjoy the fruits of his labor. Many are still struggling to accept that the curtains have fallen on the career of one of the most prolific Kalenjin secular musician. For many, the untimely death of Solomon Manori feels like a sudden loss. His captivating songs brought joy and comfort to music lovers. We will no longer experience his thrilling live performances of hits such as Narachek, Lakwet Chebore, Tulwenyon Tinderet, and Chepkunyuk, among others. With a blend of rock music that appealed to both young and old, his songs often featured rich proverbs. Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot stated, "This is more than just a song; it is a prophecy that eventually came to pass." He described Manori as not just an ordinary musician, saying, "He composed timeless songs that spoke to the hearts of many, defying every known or imagined boundary. His extraordinary voice, soulful melodies, and timeless songs like Chepkunyuk, Emenyon Koloo, Narachek, and Kilyan ooh Shemeji not only shaped the Kalenjin music scene but also touched the hearts of generations, preserving our heritage through his artistry.
