Azimio la Umoja has picked former Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni to head its legal and technical team in the national talks with Kenya Kwanza.

The coalition made the announcement a day before the start of the talks between the government and its opposition camp.

In a statement on Tuesday, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga reiterated the coalition's readiness for the talks, adding that they are neither after a handshake nor a power-sharing deal.

“In consideration of this reality, we have established a technical and legal team to support our delegation during the dialogue. Accordingly, Hon. Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, will lead the Legal and Technical team in these talks,” Raila said.

“We have tasked our delegation and technical teams, under the capable leadership of H.E. Kalonzo and Kioni, to approach these talks with courage and open minds.”

The coalition has also picked National Assembly Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi to deputise Kalonzo Musyoka in the five-member delegation.

He will also act as the official spokesperson of the Azimio delegation.

The two teams are scheduled to start the talks Wednesday, August 8 mid-morning at the Bomas of Kenya, in Nairobi.
