Pregnant woman shot by suspected Al-Shabaab militants airlifted to Nairobi

A pregnant woman shot by suspected Al-Shabaab militants on January 3, 2023, has been airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.

The mother of nine, Sadia Abdikadir Hassan, was shot when the alleged militants targeted Lafey police station in Mandera County.

According to Lafey MP Mohamed Abdiker, Ms Abdikadir was airlifted to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after her condition deteriorated.

A bullet is lodged in her skull.

"Ms Abdikadir needed a referral to Nairobi for quick intervention. I engaged the ministry of health to help me with air ambulance and they responded well", said Abdiker in a statement.

The woman, who lives near the police station, was shot through the eyebrow after the gunmen laid siege to the camp for nearly an hour before they were repulsed by the police

Explosions followed by sporadic gunfire rang out during the 12am attack.
