Trans Mara chief murdered while on duty

Trans Mara: A local provincial administrator in Trans Mara West Sub County was yesterday brutally killed while on line of duty by a man who committed suicide shortly after unleashing the attack.

Osinoni location chief, Stephen Ole Nankoris was speared to death while he was attempting to resolve a family dispute pitting two siblings who were disputing over family property. The incident which occurred at Mosocho area at around midday attracted hundreds of local residents who trooped the homesteads and watched in shock the lifeless body lying in a pool of blood.

 The deceased who earlier served as a pastor had rushed to the homestead in response to a distress call from one Cecilia Kaikai whose elder brother had cornered her and wanted to chop her to death. According to Kaikai, 24, her elder brother, Peter Ole Nchoe,40, while armed with a machete stormed their home and warned her that she be prepared for dire consequences if she dared lay hands on any family property.

 “I was with my mother when my sibling came armed with a machete and told me that since I had earlier got married there was no way I should own any property. He started quarreling and shouting at me in front of my mother and when he turned wild I locked myself up in the house and called chief who responded swiftly,” said Kaikai.

Upon the arrival of the chief at the homestead, Kaikai narrated amidst sobs that the administrator attempted to inquire what had happened but her brother turned hostile and never wanted to listen to the chief. “I was at the bathroom preparing to accompany the chief to go record a statement of the threats when I heard a loud scream from my mother and upon coming out I was shocked to see the chief lying and grinning in pain and shortly he died near our doorstep,” narrated Kaikai.

Trans Mara West sub county deputy county commissioner, Abdihakim Jubat who visited the scene of crime condemned the incident terming it unfortunate and unacceptable. Jubat urged local residents to exercise sobriety while attempting to resolve any form of dispute and allow the relevant authorities to mediate where necessary.

“As a government we are shocked and at a great loss with the manner in which our officer has been brutally and mercilessly killed while ensuring that people under his area of jurisdiction live in harmony,” said Jubat.
