KenGen appoints acting CEO as Albert Mugo retires

Power producer KenGen is yet to find a replacement for its outgoing chief executive despite a lengthy search that started in February this year.

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) announced that Albert Mugo, whose last day in office was Friday, would be replaced by Rebecca Miano. Eng Mugo retires after attaining the age of 60 years.

This is contrary to expectations that the power producer would appoint a substantive chief executive officer within the six-month window since it started the recruitment process. KenGen had in February hired business consultancy PKF to undertake the recruitment.

"Following the retirement of Eng Albert Mugo...on Friday, August 25, 2017, we wish to inform our shareholders that the Board of Directors... has appointed Rebecca Miano as the acting managing director with effect from Saturday, August 26, 2017," said KenGen Chairman Joshua Choge.

Until the appointment, Miano has been the company secretary and legal affairs director at KenGen since 2008. Mugo had been at the helm of the firm since January 2014 and his first three-year tenure ended in January, this year, but was given a one-year extension.
