Muhoroni Youth moved second in the National Super League (NSL) standings after defeating rivals Fortune Sacco 2-0 in a top of the table match staged at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu County on Sunday.

Yusuf Ochibola and Abubakar Suluaimon scored the two important goals as the former top tier side made ground towards earning promotion to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League next season.

The win saw Muhoroni leapfrog Fortune Sacco to second in the log with 56 points, two more than the latter dropped to third.

Speaking after the win, Muhoroni Youth Team Manager Moses Jobita said he is confident they will be promoted to the top league if they maintain their recent form.

Jobita said they only need to avoid defeat in their remaining seven matches to be promoted.

“I have finished off Fortune Sacco and now remaining with the current leaders APS Bomet whom I will be hosting soon. If we win our two away matches next week and defeat Bomet, we will be at a better position,” said Jobita.

Top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted to the top tier league automatically by virtue of finishing second and first as the third placed team will be forced to face Wazito in the relegation-promotion playoffs match.

Elsewhere, George Ochieng's goal in the 49th minute floored SS Assad 1-0, earning Mombasa Elites bragging rights in the Coastal derby at Serani Sports Club in Mombasa on Saturday.
