Sofapaka thrash City Stars as Homeboyz shoot down Police

Sofapaka defeated Nairobi City Stars 3-1 to kick start their new FKF Premier League season on a high in a match played at Wundanyi Stadium on Sunday.

Joseph Waithera put Sofapaka ahead in the 40th minute to give the hosts a slender lead into the break before Lawrence Jumah doubled the scores from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute.

Timothy Ouma pulled a goal back for City Stars in an attempt to reignite a comeback, a wish which was blown away at the death when Waithera sealed the win with a late goal.

In Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz shot down newbies Kenya Police after defeating them 1-0 at Bhukungu Stadium. Stephen Opoku scored the winner for the hosts in the 67th minute to welcome Police in the topflight league.

In Nakuru, Golden Gloves winner James Saruni saved a stoppage time penalty to help Ulinzi Stars to a 1-0 win over Nzoia Sugar.

Mark Bikokwa had given the hosts the lead in the first half from the spot, a goal that would prove crucial for the soldiers.

Earlier in the day, AFC Leopards defeated Tusker 1-0 at Thika Stadium.
