Eugene Ambulwa and Johnston Indimuli scored a goal apiece to propel West Kenya Sugar to a 2-0 victory over visiting Nairobi Stima in a FKF Premier League match in Kakamega.

Ambulwa broke the deadlock in the 19th minute before Indimuli got his name on the score-sheet after the half hour mark.

At the City Stadium, Posta Rangers beat Finlays Horticulture by the same margin thanks to Geoffrey Kataka and Collins Netto’s strike.

Geoffrey Shiveka’s second half goal is all that Kariobangi Sharks needed to pip Ligi Ndogo, while Nzoia United were held to a 1-1 draw by Bidco United.

Despite having a free weekend, Shabana are still at the top of the table with nine points, one ahead of joint second placed FC Talanta and Kakamega Homeboyz. In the Kenyan Premier League, Prolific Meddie Kagere hit a brace as Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia produced a master class to drub Chemelil Sugar 3-1, at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Earlier at the same venue, Robert Omunuk returned to haunt Tusker as Ushuru bounced back from their season opener defeat to Sofapaka to stun the brewers 1-0 in yesterday’s KPL double header.

If Ushuru, formerly KRA, showed their intention this season by claiming a giant’s scalp, it was champions Gor Mahia who put on the table their champions credentials. Khalid Aucho put the defending champions ahead with a bullet-like strike on the stroke of halftime before the Rwandese international doubled the lead after the break.

The match started at a high tempo with Gor making numerous raids in the early proceedings but Chemelil goalkeeper Fredrick Onyango, who had a busy afternoon, kept them at bay, pulling off series of stunning saves.
However, in the 12th minute, Onyango was booked for fouling Michael Olunga at the edge of the box but punched away Karim Nizigiyimana’s resulting free-kick into a fruitless corner.

The millers’ best chance of the game came in the 37th minute, but Harun Shakava blocked Stephen Wakanya’s effort in the box.

With three minutes to halftime, Aucho unleashed a screamer that flew past a helpless keeper into the right corner of the net. Olunga could have it 2-0 but his goal was ruled offside.

Gor continued from where they left off in the first half with Kagere scoring a brilliant volley in the 48th minute. In the 71st minute, substitute Dennis Okangi could have reduced the deficit for the visitors, but he shot wide with keeper Boniface Oluoch only to beat.

Meshack Karani scored a consolation goal for Chemelil in the 88th minute but his celebrations were cut short by Kagere’s strike, handing Gor their third win in a row.

Elsewhere Ulinzi Stars returned to the winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Western Stima, at the Afraha Stadium.

The important goal of the match was netted in the 20th minute by Mark Makwatta from the spot after Joash Odhiambo handled the ball in the area.

In Ruaraka, Bandari restricted Sofapaka to a 2-2 draw.

Ugandan import George Abege hit a brace for the dockers with John Baraza and Enoch Agwanda scoring a goal each for Batoto Ba Mungu.
In the second match, it was UShuru coach Ken Kenyatta who savoured a deserved victory describing it as a perfect bounce-back.

“We had planned to win this match. The concentration level of the boys was superb,” Kenyatta said.
