Embrace day schools, Sang urges parents

Parents should embrace opportunities offered by day secondary schools, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang (pictured) has said.

Speaking on Saturday at Koitalel Samoei University in Nandi, Mr Sang, said no child should stay away from school on account of their parents’ inability to pay boarding fees.

“We have some day schools in Nandi County that are doing much better than some boarding schools," Sang said.

"They do exceptionally well in national examinations and we need to encourage students and parents that they can achieve in whichever schools they are placed as long as they are focused."

He noted that a good number of students from day schools had competed fairly and excelled, joining universities and other tertiary institutions.

He encouraged teamwork among players in the education sector to improve performance in Nandi County.

At the same time, the governor said the agriculture department in his administration had rolled out programmes in dairy, coffee and tea sectors to enhance farmers' earnings.

He said such earnings would enable them to pay schools fees without a lot of struggle.
