Leaders in Busia have petitioned security agencies to flush out outlawed Marachi Republican Council, which they blame for a wave of criminal activities.

Led by Burumba Ward MCA Tony Onyango, the leaders said members of the group were known to many and they were terrorising residents at night and in broad daylight.

“These boys have now gone to the extent of being used by politicians to beat up supporters of opponents, something residents cannot accept,” said Mr Onyango.

Speaking during a youth empowerment forum held at Lukonyi, Onyango, who was accompanied by his Nangina counterpart John Obogo, said cases of crime in Busia town were gradually increasing, with prime suspects being members of the group.
