New police chiefs in Rift Valley and Eastern regions named

Rift Valley and Eastern regions have new regional police commanders in changes announced yesterday.

Solomon Makau, who has been the head of standard gauge railway (SGR) project, is now Rift Valley regional commander.

Mr Makau replaces Gideon Amalla who was moved to Eastern in the same capacity. Edward Mwamburi who was the head of traffic in Nairobi was moved to North Eastern as regional boss.

The changes saw Francis Munyambu moved from Nairobi City County to police headquarters and replaced by Robert Kitur.

The new SGR boss is Peter Mwania, while Leonard Katana replaces Mr Mwamburi as Nairobi’s traffic boss. Joseph Nthenge was named the Kirinyaga County Commander and swapped positions with Rono Bunei who was posted to Kenya Airports Police Unit as deputy commandant.

Emmanuel Okendo was named Mombasa traffic commander, while David Birech was named the head of training at police headquarters. The changes affected a number of officers from the personnel section.
